SEMA 2016: This Toyota 86 Is Rocking The Engine From A Ferrari 458 Italia!

It’s strange to think that both Lohnes and I almost walked right by this little ball of violence without noticing the two big, red air intakes sticking high above where the hood should be on this Toyota 86. Luckily, I looked at the car again and my brain registered what my eyes saw: red crackle finish, bare metal details. FERRARI script. That’s right…screw the LS swap, let’s go for the ultimate overkill, the direct-injected 4.5L V8 from a Ferrari 458 Italia. This rosso corsa drift monster is officially the GT4586, and is one of Ryan Tuerck’s mental creations. It’s not legal for any drift class, but it wasn’t meant to be. That gave Tuerck and his team creative license, which was needed to jam the Ferrari mill into the spot where a flat-four once sat. There was a lot of cutting and fab work just to fit the motor, never mind the engine’s air intake setup. It was a massive undertaking, and certainly off of the beaten path, but it’s alive and it’s more than functional…it howls. Check this out:
