Well, after 34,000 blog items, today stands as proof that there’s still an infinite universe of new and unique stuff to find out there. This time it is a 1966 Ford flatbed with a 390ci engine, a Kenworth sleeper on its back and THREE transmissions. Yes, this is the three trans equipped Holy Smokes Ford and it is so awesome we can hardly stand it. If you are going to go into a dissertation about why this is not as smart as just bolting in a modern overdrive automative with 10-forward speeds, please leave. This is not about making sense. Hell, this is even about making part sense. This is straight up crazy but we love it. Oh, and that 390 sounds effing awesome. Oh, and the 4th shifter? That’s for the four wheel drive.
So what all is getting this thing down the road? There is a five speed main transmssion, a Brownie auxiliary, and some sort of high low type deal as best we can tell. The guy’s wife put a description of the transmissions up on the YouTube page but it seems she is missing one. Being a gas engine perhaps it is a little more forgiving on rev matching and stuff than a diesel is but this guy clearly is the man with the shifting plan. He actually leans into the throttle at one point and not only does the truck sound good, it seems to have some scoot. This is likely because it was running through some insane gear ratio at the time but whatever. The whole thing is still great.
This is not the big rig guy throwing three sticks, this is a dude who looked at stuff in his house and just figured a way to bodge it all together and make it work. We like Holy Smokes. Do you?
