Unhinged: The Reawakening Of A Field-Car Cordoba And A Call-Out

So, I’m not the only person who recently got a nice note from Austin Griggs that mentioned a race in Alabama around the middle of October. A lot of people who were known to have Mopar projects of some sort were asked to come out and play as part of the Mopar vs. Brand X Street Car Showdown event that he’s been putting together. If it’s anything like his Ratty Muscle Cars “No Shine Shit List” deals that he first got notoriety for a few years ago, the trip to Jake’s Dragstrip is going to be worth every last mile, every last knuckle split wide open, and every last expletive I blasted out like a shotgun blast. And I’m hoping to meet up with friends from around the area while I’m there…the timing is right as a perfect end-of-season blast.

One person in particular I’d love to see show up is Dylan McCool. We’ve actually been on a Ratty Muscle Car cruise before, back before we knew each other, so I know it’s close enough to where he lives to be a viable option. I know he has plenty of machines on-hand that fit Austin’s rule book for racing. But the question: which one does he actually bring? Most of his trucks are legit trucks and aren’t set up for hot rodding. His Dart is way too nice, and that crusty old Dodge Aspen is a dead-stock machine that, even after a long date with the pressure washer, is a dog turd. That leaves one option: his Chrysler Cordoba.

And why not start preparing that car? His ‘Doba is a big-block car, and it’s a B-body. What that means is that, looks and “Corinthian Leather” jokes aside, this is just a big brick with 1971 Charger-esque underpinnings underneath. It’s workable. It’s got room to be improved. And it’s got seats that just won’t quit for those long drives in the countryside. McCool’s ‘Doba has been a party barge since he got it running. Mostly, it plays in the grass fields near his house. But even for a rough Cordoba, it’s still got hope.

At the end of this video he asks his viewers what he should do with the car. Easy answer, Dylan: exhaust, camshaft, tune, and drag this puppy to Alabama in October. You’ve tossed around the cheap sleeper option since the first video on this beauty. Unless you’re going to build the Aspen instead, you know what to do.
