Holy smokes! Who the hell needs a diesel when you can strap a couple of turbos on built, e85 fed 292 Y-Block Ford mill and make insane power and torque. Wrap this monster package up with the body and lifted chassis of a 1962 Ford pickup and you’ve got a monster than can own the pulls, the street races, and the sand drags all in the same damned weekend.

A year or two I made an off handed comment on the blog about Y-Block engines that led to virtually the entire Y-Block community taking me off their Christmas card lists and declaring me an idiot and worse stuff. Well entire Y-Block community, I’m sorry. This is my 606 wheel horsepower mea culpa. While twin turbo modern engines are cranking out north of 1,000hp, that takes nothing away from this awesome old Ford. Generally speaking, these engines made in the neighborhood of 200hp at the crank back in the day so to take one and have it making closer to 700 at the crank now? That’s freaking awesome.

Earlier this week we asked you what your favorite non-mainstream engine was. Not many said the Y-Block. After watching this video, a few minds will probably be changed. Mine was blown!

PRESS PLAY TO WATCH THIS COOL OLD TRUCK GRUNT OUT MORE THAN 600 REAR WHEEL HORSEPOWER AND MORE THAN 700 LB/FT OF TORQUE!

  1. The Outsider

    That’d be a nice mill for a ’55-’57 Thunderbird . . . or just about anything that came with a Y-Block!

Ted Eaton, look him up at http://www.y-blocksforever.com, from Texas is now making 500+hp Y-blocks that are completely streetable. It takes the right combination of parts but it is no longer an unreachable goal. If there is a Y in your barn, or in your past, you should check out the Y-blocks Forever site. Also check out the NEW aluminum heads and other speed parts at John Mummerts http://www.ford-y-block.com . With the brain trust on these sites the future of these 50 year old engines is bright.
Current records on the drag strip is 7.80’s and the salt flats is in the upper 150’s and getting every year!
