Video: Watch A Clean Little Canadian Nova Carry A Massive Wheelstand Out Like A Boss!

Yesterday we showed you a big old Plymouth carrying the front end like none other at a drag strip in Dakota. Today it is a Nova performing the same act but this time it happens in Manitoba, Canada. As you watch this video take note of how everyone is already bundled up like Eskimos there in Manitoba. We’re guessing that racing season is drawing to a close and the glaciers are soon to return out there in Western Canada. Despite the obvious cold weather, the track at Interlake Dragway was hooking like Velcro.

There’s something really cool about an unassuming car that performs amazing feats like this. It looks like a leaf spring and Cal Tracs setup out back. Brutally simple, but completely effective when tuned up right. No idea what the engine is, but the revs seem to have stayed low enough that a big block makes sense.

The driver did an awesome job in this case, too. He really knows the car as you can hear him begin to lift just before the bumper scrapes. Had it hit that under power, it could have unloaded the rear tires and caused a near instant wreck. The landing is hard, but not bone crushingly so. This driver and his Nova are way cool!

Interlake Dragway (previously Gimli Motorsport Park and Viking International) is a highly underrated facility. It flat out hooks when prepped well and this year it has been prepped very well. (thank the guy in the Snap-On jacket… Darryl Wruck) It’s also one of the longest tracks out there with a massive shutdown area. Yes there are weeds growing out of the middle of it but the the track / groove is very well maintained. That Nova was competing in the small tire heads up shootout that they were trying to get started this year. last I saw it was running 9.20’s and was very competetive. Oh by the way… same race track that the Gimli Glider landed on… you know, the 737 that glided in and almost ran over a bunch of sports car racers.
