Of all the pieces that get pounded and punished in drag cars, the rear axle lives in a special kind of hell. Think about it. The housing and the contents inside of it are responsible for taking every bit of twist, grunt, and abuse that the engine and transmission can handle and then get it to the ground. Rear end failures tend to be some of the most violent that you’ll see on a strip for the reasons just mentioned above. We have seen them tear completely loose from cars, spit out axles, blow our center sections, lock up tight when teeth are sheered of the ring gear, and go out in a myriad of other unpleasant ways but we have never seen one actually fail while a drag car (or in this case truck) was in the middle of a wheelstand.
The green Chevy truck in the video looks clean. It is of the 1988-1998 body style, painted lime green, and according to the video is packing a nasty ProCharger quipped engine. The truck has a large diameter set of wheels on the front so we’re guessing on the street it has more of a pro touring/street machine look than a pro street drag style appearance. There are a big set of slicks on the back and those suckers basically dead hooked when the driver stood on the gas.
The video was taken at the former Nebraska Motorplex located in Scribner. The track was based off of an old runway and operated from 1980-2005. It was a small place and according to a few things we have read only sat on about 50 acres of land. While that seems big when you are thinking about a house lot, it certainly is not all that big when talking about a drag strip. The place looked kind of cool sitting in the middle of cornfields and all but all reports are that the place was essentially razed after 2005 and it ain’t coming back. The other thing that ain’t coming back? The rear end in this truck.
