Watch this video and you’ll be amazed by how bad ass Latisha Wood is at etching this steel Jesse James built gas tank. In the name of full disclosure, I know Latisha pretty well and think she’s a bad ass for more than just her tank etching, including the bad ass tattoos she has/is doing on me. To visit her at Vatican Studios in Orange County is to see a whole world of art that will have your head spinning. She’s not the only talented one at Vatican Studios, but man the breadth of art that she participates in is amazing. Tattoos, painting, metal etching, hand drawing, shoe and clothing designs, and much more. When was there last month getting my tattoos started I saw this tank after it had been freshly delivered by the owner. He told her to do whatever she wanted and left it. Well what she’s done is true art, that’s for sure.

In case you don’t quite understand the process here, the tank has been painted black with no clear coat and then Latisha etches right through the paint. If you are familiar with scratch art then you’ll realize this is similar. If not, remember this is working in the negative and there is no going back to cover it up. Once you remove the paint the only way to get a do over would be to paint the entire thing over again and then try a second time. The timelapse video shows how she does it.
