Watch the World’s Quickest and Fastest AMC Powered Drag Car Rip Off a 6 Second Lap – Twin Turbo Power!

Watch the World’s Quickest and Fastest AMC Powered Drag Car Rip Off a 6 Second Lap – Twin Turbo Power!

While shooting texts back and forth over the weekend with my pal Jon Wall, he tipped me off to what has to be the coolest Top Dragster machine in the country, Alan O’Brien’s twin turbo, 481″ AMC powered rail. The car itself is a 270″ dragster built by RaceTech Race Cars and the engine is based off of an Indy block and cylinder heads. The car was built back in 2011 and he has been wailing on it ever since. As best we can tell, the quickest he has gone is 6.04 and the best MPH is around 236 MPH.

In this video you’ll see the car down down into the 6.30s on what has to be a conservative tune up. We think that is to beyond cool that O’Brien is running this combo and as best we can tell, no one has ever been quicker or faster with an AMC powered vehicle. Noted engine builder Barry Allen is the guy who gets credit for putting this combo together. While the car has not been in the low 6.0s in a little while (as best we know), since it has been that fast in the past, we’re thinking that a five second time slip may not be out of the question at some point in the future. Anyone who is able to turn a five second pass in a dragster with AMC power is a bonafide bad ass.

Press play below and watch 481ci of AMC twin turbo power go to work!

One wonders how old George Romney would have reacted (or OVERREACTED) to a bitchin race car like that . . . .

Romney’s version of American Motors ran stupid advertising like this:

“Why we don’t enter high-performance Rambler V-8s in racing?

BECAUSE THE ONLY RACE RAMBLER CARES ABOUT IS THE HUMAN RACE!

Racing has a real fascination as professional drivers unleash raw horsepower and flaunt death. . . . [R]acing is deadly. Yet there are thouse who are glamorizing and advertising race-track speeds in order to sell cars.

This is not in the public interest, and Rambler will have no part in it. . . .

[G]rowing numbers are joining Rambler’s crusade against the promotion of excessive speed and horsepower.”

Wrong then and wrong now! Keep those turbos spoolin’

Yeah. George did everything he could to ruin American Motors, and was quite succesful.Didn’t do the state of Michigan much good either as Gov.Ok no politics, but his kid wants to be Pres. Pretty scary.

Right on to both of the above comments as well as this bad ass digger! The only way this machine could get any cooler would be if Mr O’Brien gave it that classic blue, white and red (or red, white and blue) AMC paint job. You called it Brian, those were the best factory paint jobs of all time. Thanks for keeping the AMC stuff coming.
