Watch Hot Rod Magazine’s David Freiburger Drive a Lingenfelter Tuned Camaro ZL1 202mph!

Like everyone else, we saw the announcement the other day from Hot Rod Magazine, that Freiburger ran a ZL1 tuned by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering to a terminal speed of over 202mph at the Continental Tires test track in Uvalde, Texas. Now, a video has been released showing the day’s action with narration from the pilot of the car, David Freiburger who is of course the Editor-in-Chief of Hot Rod Magazine.

Despite the 8.5-mile size of the Continental Tires test track, this was no easy feat. The track is not banked and the pavement is many decades old. Some detail shots show it and as David says in the video, it looks more like an old country road than a race track. It took a bunch of runs for David to learn the car and get the strategy and speed up to turn the magic number, but the did it with no time to spare at the end of the day.

There are days that is sucks to be DF but this wasn’t one of them.

Congrats to Mike Copeland and the crew at Lingenfelter as well as to Freiburger for turning the big numbers in a ZL1!

OH BOY, OH Boy . A Tuner Shop Camaro goes over 200 when a stock GT500 is rated at 200 from the factory..

so 720 horsepower in a 4000 lb car gets you 10.79 in the quarter and 200 mph? Big Red still kicks rear…

Great video and DF has the stones to do stuff a lot folks don’t. BUT, ported heads, cam, injectors, cold air kit pulleys etc. etc. to get to 200? Yes once gain we’re setting up the apples to oranges comparison to help the Camro try and get past the Mustang. It would be a huge disappointment if the GT500 vs ZL1 comparison isn’t off the showroom floor. There is no way to access tuner cars in terms of cost modifications, secret N2O etc.
