Buford T Justice Hits the Chassis Dyno Today…Guess the Rear Wheel HP!

Buford T Justice Hits the Chassis Dyno Today…Guess the Rear Wheel HP!

So color us obsessed if you want, but after our 15-second stock drag romp with Buford a little more than a week ago, we were really interested in putting this car on a dyno to get a rear wheel hp number. Dave Nutting was foaming at the mouth to see it happen and after poo pooing his idea, we decided to see if we could wrangle some roller time from a friend. We made several threatening phone calls to our pal Travis Johnson, the owner and operator of Performance Auto and Dyno in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Travis runs a nice repair shop, dyno tunes lots of stuff, and races his own six second twin turbo drag car along with a bitchin’ 275 Radial Mustang that his right hand man Ben Dahlgreen pilots.

We asked Johnson what we would need to do in order to put Buford T Justics on his DynoJet dyno and he told us to show up with pizza. That is something we are more than capable of doing. We are scheduled to be on his dyno at 10:30 eastern standard time this morning and we plan to hammer the car as many times as he will let us and playing with some of the same basic tuning tips we talked about at the drag strip. Maybe some timing here and there, air cleaner lid flip, etc. We think that we’re in for another numbers based surprise, just like the drag strip ET.

You have an easy job here:

Guess the RWHP of Buford T Justice. The closest guess without going over wins a BS shirt!

  1. floating doc

169 is a good guess based on the trap speed. Of coarse, there will be some more messing around trying to find cheap (free) horsepower. Maybe a timing bump, a bag of ice and a pull without the air cleaner at all; who knows?

My guess for the final pull?

176, that is unless they use a leaf blower to pressurize the intake. If so, then 176.9.
