Yellowstone Drag Strip Sold to Local Family – Racing to Continue at Facility in 2012!

Yellowstone Drag Strip Sold to Local Family – Racing to Continue at Facility in 2012!

Some great news to follow up on our blog item regarding the sale of Yellowstone Drag Strip. Normally when a strip goes up for auction there’s all kinds of wheeling and dealing behind the scenes and it isn’t as cut and dry as it could be on auction day. That was not so yesterday at YDS. When the final gavel fell the facility (which as built in 2003) sold for a reported $310,000 to a local family who plans on operating the facility as normal in 2012.

If you ask us, that is the deal of the century for a turn key strip that was built in 2003. Hell, the place is barely broken in! We believe the name of the family who bought the place is McCarthy. It is a great thing for racers in the Billings, Montana area, for the racers of NHRA Division 6, and for the sport in general.

Here’s a larger shot of the facility –

Congratulations to the new owners and good luck in the years ahead. Thank you for preserving organized drag racing in the NW division………. Danny D.

Bitchin, Bob! We must keep these tracks alive for the future. I was racing @ Lions, OCIR, and the rest when they closed. Just devastating!snippet514

If the new owner’s had a couple mil to spend on more infrastructure (stands, stage, campground w/showers,rest rooms, etc). they could host a bodacious 2-day All-Fuel Match Race/ Rock ‘n Roll Concert. Make it a destination event and everyone could get away to the Montana wilds and have some big fun. Not an NHRA national event, but something along the line of how the PHR deal in Martin used to be. Call it the Northern Middle of Nowhere Rockin’ Nitro Nationals. Ran right, the owners could recoup their investment in a few years, then it would be a self perpetuating event. I’ll be there ! ! !
