The first generation Chevy Camaro is one of the most popular and highly visible platforms used for street machines, drag race cars, pro touring cars, trars, paint dab restos, and mis-spelled Craigslist ads. At any car show, drag race, autocross, or other automotive enthusiast event, you are more likely to see a first gen Camaro than you are to see virtually anything else. They have been done in hundreds of different ways and yet guys still find ways to make them unique. From the corner warping Camaros of Mark Stielow to the infamous Pro Street “Popeye” 1969 Camaro of Pat Musi, they are all things to all people.
Of course, the first generation Camaro kicked off the longest running model to model rivalry in American automotive history by taking on the Ford Mustang head on. The cars have traded sales titles back and forth, the Camaro went into hibernation for a few years, and now the two cars have available models that are either pushing or exceeding 600hp from the factory floor. It’s the Hatfields and McCoys on four wheels and the Camaro gets all the blame or thanks for that.
