I get asked all the time which is better, turbos or a supercharger? And there are of course all kinds of superchargers and a jillion different turbos. The answer isn’t one you can just throw out there, because it depends on what the heck you are trying to accomplish. Max horsepower? Max torque? What RPM range? Race car? Street car? Tow rig? There are a lot of other questions that have to be asked in order to determine which power adder is right for your combination, BUT a power adder is almost always a good thing. Just saying.
In this video, Richard Holdener is going to test a 454 junkyard engine with both twin-turbos and a Vortech supercharger. I happen to like both turbos and centrifugal superchargers, but you’ll see that they behave differently on this engine. Does that make one better than the other in different applications?
Here is the description from Richard’s video:

CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I RAN A CAMMED AND CARBURETED, GEN-6 454 FROM THE JUNKYARD, FIRST WITH A VORTECH CENTRIFUGAL YSI SUPERCHARGER (INTERCOOLED AND NON INTERCOOLED), THEN WITH A PAIR OF S475 TURBO (YEAH, I KNOW-TOO MUCH). NATURALLY THE TWIN TURBOS SET UP WAS INTERCOOLED AS WELL. HOW DO THE BOOST CURVES COMPARE? HOW DO THE POWER CURVES COMPARE? CHECK IT OUT-BONEYARD BOOST BABY!
