So you find a cheap 4.8 or 5.3 for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and take it home to clean up and put into your project car or truck, only to find that it has a bunch of issues you weren’t expecting. What do you do? I mean everyone always talks about how cheap these engines are used and how they are all perfect and can’t be killed. If you believe the hype, then an LS engine is indestructible and was born to be a race engine whether Chevrolet likes it or not.
But what about those engines that do have issues? Are any of them too big to overcome?
Well yes, some might be too big to overcome, but that’s going to be a rarity. Unless it has a rod hanging out the side of the block, then it has a pretty good shot at being fixed. This 4.8L of Richard’s had all kinds of issues, some worse than others, and he fixed them all to make this thing run and make real power. Check out the video.
