This Week In Undead SUV Zombie Names: The Jeep Grand Wagoneer Is Coming Back, Baby!

(By Tom Lohnes) – Jeep is confirmed to bring back the Wagoneer and grand Wagoneer nameplates in the form of three-row full-sized SUVs to fight the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition. The Wagoneer is rumored to be a normal 3-row SUV aimed at the aforementioned Tahoe and Expedition, but the Grand Wagoneer is where things get interesting.

So, the Grand Wagoneer is very likely going to be a luxury 3-row, competing with the likes of the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercedes-Benz GLS, to name a few. Powertrain options for the normal Wagoneer will likely being the normal 3.6-liter V6 and 5.7-liter V8, but the Grand Wagoneer should debut FCA’s new Twin-Turbocharged, 3.2-liter Inline-6 that is slated to make 450 horsepower in its highest tune. That I6 should be the base engine on the luxed up Wagoneer, but what will be the upgrade? Well that will probably be the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 that appears on everything from the Dodge Charger to the RAM 2500HD pickups. The 6.4 will likely be an SRT trim and have the same 475 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft of torque the Durango and Grand Cherokee SRT have. There might even be a Trackhawk option later down the line, and maybe it will have the Redeye tune.

For pricing, the normal Wagoneer should start at about $50,000, like it’s competition, and the Grand Wagoneer should be about $70,000. This Big Jeep defin7has some potential.

  1. Mopar or No Car

Ahem $70k will get you a beautiful new Mercedes E-Class wagon with three rows of seats, enough oomph to do 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and better gas mileage. I love the GW nameplate but when I spend Disneyland money I want a Disneyland experience.
