BangShift Tested and Approved Product: ReplayXD 1080 Cameras

BangShift Tested and Approved Product: ReplayXD 1080 Cameras

Video camera technology has been on an amazingly accelerated pace over the last few years. The rise of small, durable, high quality, “action cameras” has brought all of us to places that we’ve never been before. The crazy thing is that we’re seeing it all in full HD quality. We here at BangShift have been eyeballing the different manufacturers in this field and after a lot of careful study, we reached out to the people at ReplayXD cameras to add their wares to our multi-media arsenal. We recently received two ReplayXD 1080 cameras and from the moment we opened the box we’ve been blown away by their quality of construction, ease of use, and the great HD footage we have generated in our early testing.

You’ll be seeing the fruits of our HD video efforts soon enough, but first we want to introduce you to the equipment itself. Scroll down, check the photos and the captions to learn a whole lot more about ReplayXD cameras. To say that they are wild little pieces would be the understatement of the new year!

This is how the replay camera arrives. In this case is not only the camera but an amazing array of accessories that are all part of the $299 purchase price.

Once you free the camera from the plastic case it ships in, you'll be able to remove the actual camera from its mount and then remove the contents hidden inside the box.

You'll find a well thought out and written instruction manual, a couple of ReplayXD decals and a small zipped bag that is full of the stuff you have to pay extra for from the other guys.

Included in this bag are several mounts, including the swivel, "Heimlock" mount, a 4GB micro SD card with adapter, USB and HDMI cables, a charging plug, storage bag, and more.

Here is the exploded view of the zipper bag's contents. No other camera manufacturer provides you this much stuff standard. For 99% of people, the provided equipment will serve all of your needs. If you are one of the small percentage of guys who want to really go whole hog, there are ample accessories and mounts you can add to your camera tool chest.

Here is the camera, free of any mounts. It weighs about 3oz and is a shade less than 4-inches long. Best of all, it doesn't look like a television set, especially when mounted on a car or a helmet.

Just like we said before, this thing is TINY! It is amazing how well the wide angle lens films without any strange distortion in the picture and how much high performance technology, from the processors on, are wedged in this tiny case.

The case is black anodized Aluminum and has multiple o-rings inside of it for sealing purposes. The back of the camera has a screw on cap which is removed when you want to charge the camera, change settings, or upload footage. We have seen these things dunked in mud, snow, and fuel without hiccuping.

As we are planning on using our two ReplayXD 1080 cameras for lots of different applications, we opted for the billet suction mount, and a roll bar mount. Thus far we have used the suction mount both in and outside of a vehicle with great results. Stay tuned for the first footage from these cameras, coming soon!

How does the Replay XD HD camera compare to the GoPro HD camera? I have a non HD Replay XD and have considered upgrading to the HD version.
