eBay Find: The Coolest 1931 Chevy on Planet Earth

eBay Find: The Coolest 1931 Chevy on Planet Earth

We know that there’s no such thing as, “the perfect hot rod” because cars are such subjective devices. That being said, this 1931 Chevy coupe, with its straight axle, blown Pontiac engine, and period correctness is damned close. This car is all that and a box of donuts. The sale price is $34,000 and we have no issue with that. Our major problem is that the market for non-vital organs sucks right now.

Where to start? This is a 1931 Chevy five passenger coupe that is steel from front to back. The body sat in storage for decades and had less than 55,000 miles on it before being chopped two and a half inches. The car sits on the original fram rails that have been boxed. The rear end is an eight and three quarter inch Mopar piece that uses quarter elliptical springs, and truck arms from an old Chevy pickup as traction aids.

The motor is an awesome Pontiac mill based off of a 1965 vintage 389. It was bored .060 and has been filled with Poncho 400s slugs. The compression ratio is 8:1. The Pontiac 6x heads have been ported, treated to a five angle valve job, and filled with great parts. The huffer is fully functional, making 7-8psi according to the ad. It uses a bunch of period parts, like a Weiand manifold and a magnesium Mickey Thompson rear cover.

Out favorite part? The car uses a Clutch-Turbo transmission, meaning a Turbo 400 that uses a pedal clutch instead of a torque converter. These were the hot ticket back before torque converter technology caught up with engine performance. They are very rare to see around today, and dare we say, that combo fits this car to perfection!

Our favorite line of the ad is as follows, “This is not a 1-800-gasser car. There is not one bought suspension, bracket, speedway axle, coil over, vega steering box or anything else on this car.”

You need to read the whole ad to get the entire picture on this car, and to see a load more pictures of it. When we mentally picture a hot rod, this is the exact car we see in our mind’s eye. Badder-asser!
