Ford Releases Power Figures For 2015 Mustang Lineup: Who Wants a 310 HP Four Cylinder?

Ford Releases Power Figures For 2015 Mustang Lineup: Who Wants a 310 HP Four Cylinder?

Ford has (FINALLY!) released the power figures for the 2015 Mustang lineup. Here’s the numbers:

The 2.3L turbo four EcoBoost motor is 310hp/320 ft/lb torque. (Or, for comparison, the same advertised figure as the 1999 Cobra.)

The 3.7 V6 took a small power hit to become the base engine, but is still pretty stout at 300hp/280 ft/lb.

The Coyote 5.0 V8 is sitting at 435hp/400 ft/lb.

And of course, we all know that there is still some missing information in this list. But as recently reported, any and all information on the Mustang that is referred to as GT350.R is speculative at this point, including the actual motor itself. As things stand now, while the 5.0 is still a good package, the interest lies in the capabilities of the 2.3 four, especially when compared to V8 offerings. A light, track-prepped four cylinder Mustang might be very entertaining.

Kool! That ecoboost I-4 with the six-speed will make an excellent donor powertrain for my Thames 1/4T delivery……and I’m shooting for a sub 2000lb curb weight, so 310hp/320 ft/lb ought to get it down the road in an acceptable manner :):)

        1) Prove you’ve been a Fordophile for at least the last ten years or so .

        2) Have at least one recent Ford product , bought and paid for in your driveway/garage as a daily driver

        3) Have a website that gets a minimum of 500 hits a day on average

        4) Be willing to sell your soul … and every available space you have …. including your website/Facebook page /Twitter account , garage as well as the sides of your Delivery and daily driver and maybe even the exterior of your house over to Ford’s marketing department for advertising

Or … conversely …. forget about all of the above … find yourself either a Merkur XR4Ti [ I know where three are ] or a Mustang SVO donor car for that glorious Cosworth Ford I4 Turbo … and keep your soul as well as sanity intact

Your choice mind you . But having dealt with the corporate world pretty extensively over the last few decades ?

I’d go for Door Number Two !

Cause trust me …. those corporate freebies are anything but …. Free that is

        😉

          #1? Check
          #2? Check
          #3? Does Bangshift count?
#4 I don’t think you can “sell” souls, but they could cover all my stuff with FoMoCo advertising.

So on that basis, shouldn’t Jamie Allison or Edsel II be hawking a Ford sponsorship for my Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week car? 🙂

My dad parted one of those for the turbo4. Want whats left? He spun out on his Jeepster project.

Who’d want a 300 hp + I4 you ask ? Assuming it came with a host of handling upgrades turing it into a 21st century SVO Mustang …. I’d want one ! Thats who ! If not though …. make mine a V8 please . That V6 is looking pretty asthmatic and anemic these days

As far as this being the ‘ Heyday ‘ of Horsepower though ?

Better enjoy it while it lasts …. cause it won’t … last much longer that is . And that …. is guaranteed ..

I’d rather have a 2.3 liter DOHC twin-turbo, direct-injected V8 than ANY AUTOMOTIVE FOUR CYLINDER EVER CONCEIVED BY MAN!

At least the “poor four” is driving the correct set of wheels (increasingly rare in today’s wussified, over-regulated new car marketplace).

I’ve heard from people that have ridden in these at press events, that while Ford claims 300+hp, they sure don’t feel like they have that much. Of course, wouldn’t be the first time Ford got caught fudging numbers

Own a S197 Mustang and can say that the stock PCM calibrations leave a lot on the table. I think Ford tunes them so that people don’t kill themselves. Consider that making the car affordable and popular goes beyond the sticker price and hype. Underrating the horsepower figures and making it driveable by the average teenage valet keeps insurance premiums low and keeps it out of the newspaper as a “deathtrap”.

Ya….it’s a tank for sure. It would really be a cool car if it wasn’t a Mustang. A Maverick or Falcon maybe…but not a Mustang 🙁
