Mahle Motorsports Release Two New Power Pack Piston Applications – Porsche And VW Builders Take Notice!

Mahle is the world’s largest piston supplier and that puts them in an awesome position to make good things better. Of course their OEM business is all about building the highest quality component for their customer to the specs that the customer wants. Their Mahle Motorsports division however is all about taking good things and making them better and that’s why VW and Porsche engine builders should be very excited with the news that the company has released a pair of new part numbers, one for Porsche 944/968 power plants and the other for VW TSI engines.

The reality is that hot rodding is lots more diverse than it has ever been. There were decades in there where domestic V8 engines were pretty much it but now when you add in the diesel market, the high tech import market, and frankly stuff that we can’t even conjure at the moment, you’ll get an appreciation for the fact that more horsepower is being made with more interesting engine combos than ever before.

Like all Mahle pistons, these babies are triple coated with a dry phosphate film to help keep the pin bores happy, they have coated skirts, and hard anodizing of the top ring groove to prevent the ring from micro welding itself to the ring land. We’ve got Mahle Power Pack pistons in our new Buford Bullet…more on that this week!

For now, check out the info from Mahle!

MAHLE Motorsports Introduces Porsche 944/968 PowerPak Plus Pistons

Fletcher, NC May 1, 2014 –As the main supplier to Porsche from original equipment to their Formula 1 race efforts, it’s no wonder MAHLE Motorsports pistons are in such high demand from the discerning Porsche enthusiast. Designed to the exacting standards that Porsche owners have come to expect from MAHLE, they are triple coated first with a phosphate dry film to protect the pin bores from galling. Next, MAHLE’s proprietary anti-friction Grafal® coating is applied to the 2618 alloy slipper skirt forgings and then finally, to withstand the higher cylinder temperatures and pressures associated with a highly tuned Porsche engine, the top ring grooves are hard anodized to protect against micro-welding.

MAHLE is the world’s largest piston manufacturer, and is the leading piston liaison between upper level professional racing, OE and the specialty equipment automotive aftermarket. All parts are machined to exacting tolerances on MAHLE manufactured, application specific equipment with unmatched quality and consistency. The U.S. Motorsports division operates in Fletcher, NC.
