Buick V6 Build Part 1: The Teardown Of A Worn Used Engine For A Performance Build

I’ve made a little money here and there in some extra-curricular activities that we do not officially condone here, and by far and wide the most winning engine out of that history was a 231 cubic inch Buick V6…specifically an L67 Eaton-supercharged mill plonked into one of the most bland sedans Buick ever sent out to the public. It was a perfect storm: a throwaway grandparent’s car with no tells against some of the cockiest boy racers Pierce County, Washington had to offer. Plenty of thanks are due to every idiot who ended up paying for that weekend’s party budget. Sorry your Jetta, Integra, or garden-variety Impreza dolled up to mimic a WRX didn’t have the nuts to keep up.

One of Buick’s most successful blocks…and being truthful, one of the most successful American engines, period…the V6 found it’s home in everything from Jeeps to Grand Nationals and everything in between. Holden got the engine as well, and they’re well-received down under as well. One in particular, raided from a 1990s Commodore, is in line for Street Machine’s Holden Berlina as part of a challenge against a Barra-swapped Falcon of similar late-1980s vintage. If Scotty can get the mother of all lifters out of their bores without resorting to a small sledgehammer, we might have the start of a screaming little six. Follow along as the build begins!
