Cool Video: Jeri Ellsworth Builds a Pure Stock Circle Track Car in Her Driveway (Yes, we said her)

We were tipped off to this cool video (one in a series actually) by BangShift member Chryco63. It features tips and construction methods for modifying a late second generation Camaro into a Pure Stock class circle track race car. The twist, if you want to call it that is the fact that the work is being done by a girl named Jeri Ellsworth.

According to her Wikipedia page, Ellsworth built stock cars for a living at her dad’s garage, after dropping out of high school. The whole dropping out thing didn’t hurt her career aspirations much as she has designed computer chips from her home, created products that have sold half a million pieces, owned a chain of computer stores, and well, frankly she sounds like a legit genius.

In this video she walks us through the process of beefing up the front frame of the Camaro. She shows all the work and gives a play by play narration. She’s one hell of a welder, as you can see late in the video, when the welds are prominently shown!

Thanks to Glenn for the tip!

Never use the side of a cutoff wheel as a grinder. It works right up until the time the wheel explodes and goes into you and all that is around you.

Has she been a plumber before?

    She hammers really quick!

We need more women into working on cars! WTG!

I don’t think there’s anything strange or odd about it, either — that she’s a girl is simply an observation not on ability, but on frequency. The last time I saw a woman (not on cable TV) handle a mig trigger was roughly 7 years ago. Seen lots of guys glue stuff together in that time, however.

What you may not know is that Jeri is also a computer chip designer… self taught. She has successfully made her own IC’s in her “kitchen”. She fully reverse engineered a computer system and placed it on a single chip… truly an electronics guru. She also rebuilds pinball machines and does a bit of roller derby 🙂
