Dead Dragline Come To Life: Waking Up A Truly Junk Piece Of Equipment!

Dead Dragline Come To Life: Waking Up A Truly Junk Piece Of Equipment!

In my adventures around derelict equipment in the Pacific Northwest, it wasn’t difficult to find some long-lost ancient heavy-duty equipment that was probably sitting since the Nixon era…at least. Vestiges of paint were slowly disappearing with rust, any glass anything was probably dead and gone, and the birds and wasps had taken over and were living there decades before you were born. Of course I had to go climb over dangerous stuff. I wanted to see just what heavy equipment was all about. C’mon…don’t tell me you didn’t read “Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel”? What kid didn’t want to run some multi-ton bit of equipment?

Usually the kid who wound up getting the fifth degree from his parents for playing around dangerous equipment, that’s who. More than a few times I got absolutely reamed for playing on stuff I had no business playing on. But if you ever had the inclination to do the same and want to know how much fun you actually missed out on, then take a look at the dragline crane that Deboss Garage found at a scrapyard. This thing had a date with the devil one way or another, so why not try to wake it up one more time and see if there was any kind of life left in the three-cylinder, two stroke Detroit? What harm could there be in that?

Mind your fingers…
