Dyno Video: Watch An Old School Caddy 331ci V8 Topped With a 4-71 Blower Churn Out Noise and Horsepower!

Cadillac’s 331 ci overhead valve V8 was introduced in 1949 and it was a fantastic engine for the time. Along with the 303ci Oldsmobile engine released the same year, they really paved the way for the rest of GM and the other large manufacturers to get into the overhead valve game. With shaft mounted rocker arms, a distributor in the rear, hydraulic lifters, and advances in oiling and other engine technology, the 331 was the industry standard as far as the American market went in 1949. Lots of these motors were used in dragsters and swapped into hot rods during the explosion of the hobby in the 1950s. They are pretty scarce and rarely seen today. This engine, built by Ross Racing Engines is especially cool because it is topped with a 4-71 blower and what looks like an ancient Carter WCFB carb. This thing isn’t a high RPM screamer, and equipped with stock exhaust manifolds, the horsepower numbers are probably pretty tame. Does that make it less cool? Hell no, probably the opposite. We want to bolt this thing into a heavily chopped and laid out Model A sedan!
