There’s not doubt about the fact that autocross competitions involving cars that were not traditionally part of the autocross world have been growing at an explosive level over the last couple of years and indications are that the trend will continue in 2013. Like going to the drags on a test and tune night, autocrossing is a very low impact and cheap way to have a killer time working out your car. This film, called “Sea of Cones” was made by an amateur film maker as part of a film school class and it is absolutely dead nuts perfect for explaining what autocrossing is all about. The bonus is that the dude shot the thing like a pro and there is a ton of awesome footage of cars slicing and dicing around the course. Everything from little sporty cars to a big 1996 Chevy Impala SS are shown getting tossed around.
We plan on hammering the autocross circuit in our neck of the woods hard next season with Buford T Justice in an attempt to scare and humiliate sporty car guys. That being said, like a trip to the drags, your goal in hitting an autocross for the first time should be about getting better improving your technique, and most importantly having fun. Fair warning though. Like the strip, the autocross world is as addicting and challenging as anything you’ll find. Clawing for tenths of a second is just as fun in the apexes as it is through the top end traps. Trust us on this!
Make plans to hit an autocross next season, you won’t regret it. In the meantime, let this great video serve as a basic intro for you!

makes me want to fix something.
I plan on hitting the SCCA AutoX trail heavy in 2013 after skipping all of 2012. It’s the best rush an amateur racer can have without fear of wrecking/breaking equipment.
As the cone heads say= Drag racing is for fast cars, Autocross is for fast drivers.
That Impala in the video makes me want to throw my Town Car out there.
