Ten Pounds In The Five Pound Bag: The V8 Lada Freakshow Gets Shaken Down!

Ten Pounds In The Five Pound Bag: The V8 Lada Freakshow Gets Shaken Down!

So this is what happens when you take the four-banger out of a classic Lada and stuff the half-ton, 7.0L V8 from a ZiL medium-duty work truck inside of the engine bay…after you carve out enough room for everything to fit. It needs to be said: Roadkill, eat your heart out. Not since the “Bad Seed” Chevette have we seen so much engine get stuffed into so little car and put to proper use. With two exhaust stacks turned up for maximum volume, two of the skinniest rear tires on the planet failing spectacularly to find any traction, and what might be the world’s most unhappy five-speed manual transmission ever put into use, the Lada and the Chevette have a couple of things in common: They are small basic transportation cars powered by V8s that make torque for days but couldn’t rev if their life depended on it and both are rolling embodiments of both the ultimate in bad ideas and the basic reasoning behind the “because I can” mindset. There was no necessary reason to marry boat anchor motor to Soviet era rustbucket except for the experiences, but that’s part of the charm of this car. That, and the effortless burnouts!

Can you imagine seeing their faces if someone donated an LS swap to this little freakshow?
