Les Mayhew and his Nitro America channel on YouTube rules the school when it comes to nostalgia drag racing videos. The dude is all over the place making high quality videos featuring front engine top fuel cars, nostalgia funny cars, door slammers, and more. In his latest release, Mayhew is at his (and our!) ancestral home in the form of Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California for one of their notable “Saturday Night Nitro” events. Because so many of the teams are based in the California or western region, virtually all of the big hitters show up to these races over the summer. Noting this, Mayhew made himself present and gathered hours and ours of bitchin’ footage that he cut into this video, using his signature style of raw looking hand held shots, awesome “special effects” style shots, and the great in-car film he has become so well known for. We have said it before and we’ll say it again, Mayhew has the hammerlock on this type of video. There’s no one better in the nostalgia drag racing community right now that is producing these longer form films of events in the style that he does.

As we have the California Hot Rod Reunion coming in a couple of weeks at Bakersfield, let this serve as a bit of a teaser for that race, which is always freaking awesome. The end of the year brings everyone out for a final blast in the warm California sun and we’ll be there to bring it all to you live. It won’t be as nice and polished as Mayhew’s stuff but we know you’ll be there with us! Back to the video at hand. Les has the ability to capture cool moments in a way that is very unobtrusive. You really get the feel in these videos that you are a fly on the wall and that is cooler than anything.
