(Words by Bryan McTaggart – Photo by interwebs) – The Plymouth Superbird is a car that flat-out cannot be ignored. The nosecone, wing, fender scoops and cartoon graphics, not to mention the High Impact Color palette that would sear your eyeballs make sure that you are fully paying attention. A black and gold second generation Pontiac Trans Am has the same impact. Skipping the Smokey and the Bandit references, the cars were still stompers (ok, for the time period they were stompers…), looked the part with the menacing color scheme, still had Shaker scoops and drop-dead perfect looks. And don’t forget about the Screaming Chicken graphic on the hood, either. Yeah, nothing subtle about that, either.
Two good combinations. Now, what would happen if you mixed them…? I’ll admit that I’m not hating the car. The nose looks almost perfect on the T/A. The wing is overkill, but you can’t have one without the other. From the snowflake wheels to the custom lettering on the headlight door, the build looks professional and very well done.
I think I feel my mullet growing already. What do you say, would you rock this or are you reaching for the eye bleach?
Nope.
Uhhh….NO!
kill it with fire. 2nd Gen F-Body is not long enough to pull the look off.
I need more photos to be sure, but I’ve got to say that I kinda like it so far. But then I saw a Superbird every day for a couple of years back in elementary school.
Lighten up, purists . . . be more creative.
I would say this: A Superbird/Daytona wing only needs to be tall enough for the trunk lid to open. Most adaptations miss this subtle point.
But the shrunken skull hanging from the mirror has to go.
Joe Dirt-a-licious!
As a Pontiac-ist,I want to hate it, but can’t. Need more pictures!
It gets weirder…I keep thinking I hear “Macho Man” playing somewhere…
I suppose it has the 6.6 in it too, which was an Olds 403 with windowed main webbings.
Pontiac 400 is a 6.6 too, and the 403 isnt a slouch with a little work, windowed mains or not
NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
This is one of those cars where the description makes me think, “I should hate this,” but from the pictures, I can’t. It’s well executed and works surprisingly well together.
Yeeeess!
Kill it before it breeds!!!!
It’s missing the CB whip antenna
Better than most attempts if not all attempts to make a new pontiac out of a camaro. That being said lets have a NASCAR race with it with a super bird. The are dynamics were 43 reasons for keep kicking the nay sayers in the gut.
That’s about the ugliest and dumbest thing I’ve seen in quite a while.
She oooooootttt Bubbas done got a big bird with a wing on it. No kiddin I saw it at the Napa store. Bubba and that girl he bought them boobies for was there. They was getting a part for the tractor that Bubba put the Jet engine in. That boy is going to be a plowing SOB with that thing. Bubbles with the boobies said she was going to hang the wash on that there big wing thing.
I heard Bubbas Mom got her wig sucked in by that jet tractor thing and Bubba had to make his own dinner for a week. Bubbles with the boobies may be a looker but she aint much in the kitchen dept. Damn that thing with the wing is a ugly bird.
Looks to be well executed but I just don’t get it. Sort of like putting Nacho Cheese on Ice cream, I like them both individually but they just don’t go together.
Hey guys… This is fake. Look at the reflections around the bumps on the fenders… And where is the line between the fender and nose?
It’s been picked apart a dozen times for over a month on other pages.
I wouldn’t drive that to a booger picking contest.
Joe Dirt gone Wild
In 100 years people will believe Pontiac and Plymouth made this car!
I would get it on the ground a bit and yes, drive it everyday! This is so much win its absurd! hahahahaha!
And I would seriously consider a plum crazy & silver repaint with some matching steelies.
Feed it a bone, it’s a dawg
it is different but it works for me, is so outrageous it works and looks mean as well. It was tastefully done and well presented. I have see a lot worse things done with both cars, but this one works and a lot better than the attempts that Chrysler has been making on the new Challenger platform . I have owned my 77 T/A since new and the more I look at this one the more I like it, The nose piece almost seems like it belongs there, and as for the rear wing I would lower it about 4 inches. Well Done and nice work and use of creativity.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
