This First-Year Pontiac Grand Am Has Been Put Up For Adoption By It’s Loving Owner – Would You Give It A Good Home?

Colonnade GM cars are a weakness, especially when they are in excellent condition, and this 1973 Pontiac Grand Am is hitting that weak spot like seeing a sad puppy. The 400ci Pontiac, a luxury version of the exceedingly rare 1973 GTO, is an absolute stunner and the only thing we could possibly want, besides the title in our hands, is a four-speed. So why is this beauty on eBay in the first place? Well, it’s simple: the owner bought two Grand Ams for his collection, a 1973 and a 1974, and has enjoyed and kept them up for years. He’s now up in his years and has decided that his automobile collection needs to be thinned out…and since his 1974 Grand Am is packing that four-speed we so crave, he has decided that he would sell his automatic 1973 first. Outside of a replacement nose cone, a repaint and a newer stereo unit, the Grand Am has been kept as original as possible. He is the second owner of this car and has taken beautiful care of the car. It needs virtually nothing, and is ready to go. Who wants this Poncho in their garage?

I have had two of the 73’s, the second now on another rebuild as a grand/pro touring rendition. The handling is great stock, but now the aftermarket has kicked in with full suspension upgrades. I converted mine to a manual years ago and it’s straightforward so don’t let the auto hold you back. My buddy Sean is building an all-out PTversion. Look up 1973 Pontiac Grand Am Pro touring on YouTube. Awesome cars.

    Great Car!

the history of these 73-77 GM A-Bodies is incredible, essentially a car built by committee that totally worked. They took the best of each division ( I might get some of this wrong…) Axle=Chevrolet, Front Suspension=Pontiac, brakes=Buick, etc….each division got to use their own engines and fine tune suspension, etc…

I have 3 Buick GS A-body cars, a 65, 71 and 73 (one from each generation) . The 73 is largest and heaviest, but by far rides ,tracks, handles and brakes the best of the bunch. They were so successful, that they went on to be the bones of the 77-96 GM B-Body cars….that pretty good engineering.

The most significant downfall – corrosion protection. These cars rusted if you even mentioned road salt..

The Grand Am is not my favorite A-Body, but this looks like a great piece and I’d bet a terrific road car. Buy it!
