A Photo Tour Of The Incredible Lane Automotive Museum – A Collection Of Awesome Freaks, Racers, and More

A Photo Tour Of The Incredible Lane Automotive Museum – A Collection Of Awesome Freaks, Racers, and More

(Words and photos by Bryan McTaggart) – My wife Haley suggested that we check out the Lane Museum in Nashville during one of our visits. She kept mentioning how they had a random catalog of cars that were on rotation, how she hadn’t heard of most of the cars that were there, and that according to the pictures, there were some real freakshows parked inside. And she was right. Upon entering the museum floor, I was greeted with four generations of Tatra sedans. To the left was the Helicron, with its beautiful wood body and pedestrian-mincing propeller, and to the right, a Renault 5 Turbo, the psychotic little rally hatch from France. Walking around showcased many strange cars, most sourced from Europe, and a couple of cars donated from the Nissan plant in New Smyrna, TN. Out back, past the vintage motorcycles, was a LARC-LX, a 60-ton amphibious vehicle that flat-out dwarfs any and everything wheeled I’ve yet seen that can’t fly.

The Lane Museum periodically changes their cars around on the floor, and will occasionally bring out a partial restoration to show off as well. If you’re in Nashville, you owe yourself a look.

I went to college in Nashville and I loved going to this place. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a ton of cool stuff. The best day to go is Black Friday. They give tours of the garage, start up some of the really wild stuff and they even take some of the cars out on the road and give rides in them.

Is it just IE8 and me that doesn’t get thumbnail pictures? I only managed to make it through 3 or 4 pictures before stopping because I don’t know how many are left. Not to mention want to go back to seeing.

Yup, looks like retarded IE8, I’m home now and see the galleries. My apologies for bitching, carry on.

      Oh, and great pictures Bryan!

I love the galleries; but, a small caption of what I’m looking at would be so nice.
    Just saying 🙂
Like that figging huge us army thing that looked like it floats ?

I’ll have to convince my wife we need a vacation to Nashville. Haven’t seen such a collection of weirdness since the Microcar Museum closed.

Just visited this place . Great collection of Micro Cars and oddballs. Take the time to see this; especially if you are fond of unusual vehicles. Certainly one of the highlights of my trip.

Pretty awesome to see the Citroen truck. As a Kid we spend the summers near the town where that truck comes from and we definitely cut through the small town. Small world! It still has the old plates where the last two digits would tell you the region it was registered in and two years tax stickers (la vignette) on the windshield.
