Since the 2nd engine was built, there have been folks saying one was better than the other. Manufacturers have been battling each other on the power front since the beginning and now they battle for comfort, mileage, safety, and so much more. But what about junkyard engines? I mean at one point they were brand new engines in a car or truck and after giving all they had have ended up in a wrecking yard because they wore out, the rest of the vehicle couldn’t keep up, or was damaged in a crash. Who knows. So which one of these engines is the right one to buy? Well when you are talking about “traditional” small-blocks you are going to be talking about engines from the 1990s in most cases. Just because that is what you’ll find in the wrecking yards.

So which one is best? As usual, Richard Holdener knows the answer because he has tested all of them. But will they be so similar as to make the choice difficult? Or will one of them hand the others their asses? Richard goes through a series of dyno tests with each of them to get them in the same basic configuration so that testing will be as close to the same as possible. After all, these all came with different fuel injection systems and if you were getting one of these you probably would be converting it. So single 4-barrel intake manifolds are the order of the day.
