Back in the day when everyone wanted at LT1 to swap into their hot rod, many unknowing folks looked at donor Chevrolet Caprices and thought they were all LT1 equipped when in fact they often had 4.3L L99 V8s in them instead. The engine shares some stuff, no doubt, but it isn’t the same in size by a long shot. But does that mean we can’t have fun with one on the engine dyno? How about if we throw nitrous at it? What else will it put up with? Well luckily for us our favorite junkyard scrounger Richard Holdener has got one and is beating the snot out of it on the dyno just to answer those questions for you. I think this one is going to be a riot and I wonder just how much power it might really handle.
Watch these four videos as Richard gets this thing started, bolts some speed parts on that seemingly have no place on a 4.3 liter small block, and then wings the snot out of it in search of answers and entertainment. I think that if this thing made just 250 horsepower, but did it thanks to 100 horsepower worth of nitrous then it would be entertaining. Of course it will make more than that, but I’m just sayin’.
So watch all 3 of the episodes, in order, and let us know what you think. Don’t forget to like and subscribe and ring the bell with Richard to see just what else he’ll come up with next.
