Video: Road Tripping And Four Wheeling A Worked Up 1965 Dodge M37 Truck – California Coolness!

Fred Williams from Four Wheel and Off-Road Magazine is one of our favorite dudes in the industry because he is a super talented wrench, can build anything, and shares our warped sense of humor. One of the neatest trucks he has done recently is a 1965 Dodge M37 that he calls “The Dumpster” because it looks all old and beat, but it is filled up with good parts. The truck has a 6.0L LS engine, axles from modern one ton trucks, basic but capable suspension, an SM465 transmission with all kids of different junk hanging off of it, and enough room for Williams to pack his tent and go on a road trip. That’s what this video is about, burning up the highway, as well as the off road trails. It showcases the diversity of California with respect to the environment as well. Williams starts in LA, goes up to Mammoth where it is so cold he’s able to go snow wheelin’ before heading to the beach at Big Sur to drop off his buddy and ultimately to Pismo Beach to tear up the dunes. Oh, he also stops at the Hollister off road park in the middle. This is kinds of like a road kill minus the stranding or hood removal.

Fred gives all kinds of good tech info about the truck, his sufer dude buddy tries to do some driving off road for the first time in it and we see Fred’s level of tolerance and patience come into play as the guy tries to wipe the universal joints out. Fred handles the whole thing well without losing his mind like we would. This is a great watch!

Love the headlights on Fred’s 37. I’ve got a set of the LED military tailights for my M715 like he has and they are great, bright and work across a wide range of voltage
