Here’s How To Choose The Right Air Compressor For Your Garage Or Shop

Here’s How To Choose The Right Air Compressor For Your Garage Or Shop

We just moved the BANGshift West Coast shop from a commercial space to a new spot behind the house. The size is the same, but the layout is much much better, and we’re working really hard to make sure it is ready for all the fab work and projects we’ve got to get going on this year. A couple things we decided not to bring with us from the old shop included a two post lift we just didn’t have the right space for, after all we have a nice 4-post, and our ultra bitchin but huge 80 gallon air compressor. Both went to good homes, where they will be used to build other cool hot rods, but that means we need to think about replacing the air compressor.

In truth, we use air tools far less nowadays than we did 10 years ago. With the cordless tools and the wonderful 4 1/2 angle grinder, plus several other cutting tools, we just don’t use a die grinder, air saw, or air sander nearly as much as we used to. We still do use an air ratchet, impact gun, etc though and we have an ultra cool new JD2 Model 32 tubing bender that is outfitted with a SWAG Off-Road air over hydraulic ram so we need air for that too. But remember me saying the old compressor was huge? Yeah, huge and to be honest we just don’t have the space to give up in the new shop. So we’re shopping for something that will do what we need and take up far less space. In fact, we want to hang the thing on the wall so it takes up no floor space. Our plan is a 30 gallon unit that works at a higher pressure and cfm to give us all the air we need in less than half the space. Win and win.

But what if you don’t even need as many air tools as we have? Or what if you are painting cars and need lots of air? Or your are running multiple DA sanders while doing bodywork? Then you are going to need a lot more air than we are probably. So you better choose the right air compressor. But how do you choose?

Well thanks to the guys at Eastwood, there is a video telling you just how to choose the right compressor for your home shop. Watch below.
